Not a Morning Person

I do not like getting up early. However, Ryan views 6 a.m as an acceptable wake up time, so we have adapted. His new thing is to start yelling, "Mommy, Daddy, OUT!" from his crib, until we go get him. This morning, he was a grump! Nothing was making him happy and he just wanted me to put all my attention on him, share my breakfast, let him wear my shoes, etc. So, I decided to put him in the stroller and go for a walk. (it was about 8 a.m.) I put on my hat (since I hadn't showered yet!) and got sweatshirts and off we went. I have forgotten how much I love to walk on summer mornings! It was sunny, cool, and quiet! Ryan had a blast and was in a much better mood when we returned an hour later!

*Note to readers: Ryan has currently been taking his morning nap for 2 hours and 15 minutes. He has taken a 2 hour nap for the past 3 days! Maybe Thursday and Friday were just a preview?

No Morning Nap?

For the last two days, Ryan has not taken a morning nap. Wednesday, he took a two and a half hour morning nap, then nothing for the last two days. He has just hung out quietly in his crib for about an hour each morning. Yesterday, I went in when I realized he was still awake and he popped up and said, "All done mommy!" Today we went to the park and he crashed on the way home. He may be done with the morning nap, I just never expected him to go cold turkey!!

Tired!

Oh, boy, I am exhausted! My evening class started last night and I didn't get home until after 9. So, I came home and started working on my big paper that was due this morning, and ended up staying up until 1:30 to finish. My paper was almost done, but I had all my editing, formatting, resource page, etc, still to do. The important thing was that I got it done! I'm very tired, but I plan on napping this afternoon when Ryan lays down! I don't think I've stayed up like that working on homework since I was in college!!

Camping

We headed up to Foster Lake on Friday for our annual Couples in Christ camping trip. We had a lot of fun on Friday, until it was bedtime! The first night in a new place is always hard for Ryan, but this was unusually difficult. Jamie and I stayed in the tent reading for awhile after we put him down, so he could still see us. Jamie finally left, and I stayed in the tent for another half hour or so. He still wasn't asleep when I left, but didn't freak out. He finally did fall asleep, but then woke up in the middle of the night and was cold. So, we brought him into our bed, and he slept off and on for the rest of the night. Mostly off! Around 3:30, I decided that I wasn't going to do this another night! No one got much sleep! Ryan did take some excellent naps on Saturday! Ryan and I left around bedtime on Saturday and came home, and Jamie stayed and went wakeboarding on Sunday. It was a fun trip, and Ryan "detached" from Mommy a little! I'm hoping next year will be a little easier!
Here's Ryan peeking in the tent!

Something I've never tried....

I am taking a class this summer called Theories of Learning and Teaching. It hasn't started yet, but I got the syllabus today and one of my assignments is to have someone teach me something I have never tried before. I'm at a total loss! I'm excited about this new opportunity to learn something new, but really don't know what I should do! I know there are lots of things I don't do well, but I've tried, so they don't count! Any ideas??? Please comment and give me your ideas!!

First ice cream cone!

We had a very low-key fourth of July. We stayed home, barbecued and took Ryan on his first trip to Dairy Queen. Let me tell you, this kid loved his ice cream! It only took a few minutes for him to decide he wanted to hold it and he chowed down! He even figured out how to eat the cone! Of course, I took pictures!

He took this cone eating very seriously!

Messy Face!

Ryan LOVES ice cream! (seriously, he ate a ton!)

Wiping his face!
