Home!

Jamie has landed in Portland and will be home within the hour! This has been a tough 6 days home alone. I am definitely not cut out to be a single parent and I give kudos to all the single moms and military families! I went back to work this week, which is always crazy, and our regular babysitter who will watch Ryan during the year is not available until after Labor Day.

So, thankfully, my friend Christine watched Ryan one day, then a high school girl from church watched him the other two days, and our neighbor watched him during our evening open house.

On top of going back to work, I got a nasty UT infection and ended up in the doctors office on my first day back at work. 4 days on anti-biotics and I'm feeling a smidge better. Ryan got a new tooth, which made him very cranky and feverish and it is hard not having a break! Ryan loves his daddy and he is very anxious for him to be home!
Really, if I could just check my email, use the restroom, make dinner and have Ryan occupied, it would be great! Glad you are home Jamie!!

Gone for good?

Ryan has been down to one afternoon nap for the last 4 days. Can I tell you how much I miss that morning nap??? He still is spending a little "quiet time" in there, but that pales in comparison to the 2 hours we are used to! He has been pretty grouchy the last few days, but he has also had a couple molars poke through too. The challenge now is getting him to take a longer afternoon nap. He has still been taking a 2 hour afternoon nap, but that isn't sufficient for him now! He rarely will fall back asleep when he wakes up from a nap--but I was successful today and he is sleeping at least a little longer!

Learning to knit!

My first attempt at knitting!

I posted awhile back about needing to learn something new for the class I took this summer. I finally decided to learn how to knit, and I learned how to knit about a week and a half ago. After a confusing trip to the craft store, trying to pick between the 1,429 varieties of knitting needles and yarn with a screaming toddler, I was all set. My friend Katrina said she would teach me, and at first it was REALLY hard! She was a great teacher though and I got the hang of it, and kept practicing while we were on vacation. You can tell which end I started at! I have since pulled it out and started over and the new one looks much nicer!! (I also got an A on the paper about it for my class, which makes it even better!) I really enjoyed it once I started getting better and it was great to do on our long car trips to the coast and Yakima. I don't know if I'll get ambitious and try to do something other than a scarf, but it was fun!

Doing Great!

Does this look like a little boy who just got ear tubes?
Ryan's ear tube surgery went great! I was so surprised how quick it was. We got there at 6:30, the surgery was at 7:30, and we were home before 9, and that was with a stop at Starbucks! He was pretty tired, but after his nap he was back to his old self. He was a little clingy and wanted mommy to play with him all day long--which made it a little harder to cook dinner!

Update on the binky: He is now loving his binky with the snipped tip. I think I will have to snip some more tomorrow. Seriously, I am committed to doing this, but right now, I don't care if he takes it to college, as long as he naps!!

Off to the doctors..

I know that it is REALLY early to be blogging, but you know when you have to be somewhere really early, you wake up early and then realize you jumped the gun a little and have all this extra time? That is us today. We are taking Ryan in to get his ear tubes at 6:30 this morning. Please pray that all will go well and that recovery will be smooth!

Update on the binky: Yesterday's naps were no better than Saturday. 40 minutes of crying for the morning, 2 hours off and on for the afternoon. So, last night I gave him the binky with the end snipped off. He did not like that his binky was "broken," but seemed more confused than upset. I'll snip a little more in a day or so, and maybe he'll give it up on his own.

Bye-Bye Binky!

Jamie and I were putting Ryan to bed last night and realized his binky was in the living room, not in his bed. Jamie suggested that we put him to bed without it, and go cold turkey with the binky. Many of you know that I have been waffling on taking the binky away, but wasn't sure now was the right time. SO, I agreed and he did great last night. It took him longer to fall asleep than usual, but he went down with minimal fussing. I was a little nervous about naptime! I put him down for the morning nap and he is MAD! He has been crying for 20 minutes, so I turned off the monitor and came into the den so I couldn't hear him. I'm not going to give the binky back, but this is really bad timing! My mom is coming today, my final paper is due Monday and Ryan has his ear tube surgery on Monday. Then, a week from Tuesday is when I go back to work! I'm hoping that we can get him used to sleeping without it by then!

I'm staying strong, I'm not giving it back. I'm staying strong, I'm not giving it back....(I may have to just keep repeating this to myself!)

UPDATE: Ryan took 45 minutes this morning, but finally fell asleep. This afternoon, he was in his bed for 2 hours and NEVER slept. I think we are in for a rough ride.

Tagged!

Kristen, from Check In With Us tagged me!! I promise I will put up beach pictures soon, but I was told that I needed to update my blog!!

Rules Once Tagged:

1) Link to the person who tagged you.

2) Post the rules on your blog (copy and paste 1-6).

3) Write 6 random things about yourself (see below).

4) Tag 6 people at the end of your post.

5. Let them know they are tagged and leave a comment on their blog.

6) Let the tagger (who tagged you) know when your post is up.

Randomness about me:

1. I don't mind getting up early at my own house, but don't like to do it anywhere else.

2. I do not like chicken and tomato sauce together.

3. The fact that there is hydrogenated oils in everything is bothering me. It is in ice cream for pete sakes!

4. I am bothered by hydrogenated oil, but can't keep from eating my chocolate covered macadamia nuts.

5. I have two suitcases full of dirty sandy laundry to wash, but I am blogging.

6. Chocolate milk is my favorite drink ever. I would choose it over almost anything!

Okay! I tag: Bree, Teresa, Rochelle, Randa, Fallon, and Beth!

No Ear infection!

We went to the dr. and Ryan does have fluid in both ears, but it is not infected. But, the dr. did write us a prescription, and told us to fill it if he starts running a fever and his ears seem worse. So nice, especially since we are headed to the beach, and won't be around the dr. if he does get an ear infection!

Ear infection?

Ryan and I were at Winco today (side note: I hate that place!! I wish it didn't have the cheapest groceries, so I didn't have to go there anymore!!) Anyway, he kept rubbing his ear on his shoulder. With his history of ear infections, I'm not messing around and we are going into the dr. in a few hours. He is getting tubes on the 18th and I know they don't want him to have an ear infection then! When we saw the ENT last week, he did have fluid in his ears, so it is quite possible that they are infected. I'll update after we get back!!

1 down, 4 to go...

I finished my final paper for my online class last night..I mean, this morning. I stayed up until 2:30, and the paper isn't even that good! UGH! So, now I have 4 papers left for my other class, which includes my new learning activity. I got LOTS of great suggestions, and I finally decided to learn how to knit. (Not as adventurous as skydiving, sorry Michelle!) Ryan is currently taking every video and CD off the bookshelf and I am letting him, because he is hugely entertained by it! Of course, now I need to remind him of how to clean up, and I should probably assist him!
(I know this post was random, but I didn't get much sleep!!)

Back to Normal!

My class is OVER! (Sort of) I still have 5 papers to finish in the next two weeks, but I don't have to go to class anymore!! I really did enjoy the class, but it will be nice to be at home in the evenings again. Plus, just to be able to do all the things that tend to not get done when Mommy isn't home will help my stress level!
